Fall is here and I couldn’t be more excited! With perfect temps and the best fruits in season, I decided to throw myself a Golden Hour Fall Pear Picnic in my backyard to celebrate. Take a look at the spread, which includes a fun cocktail and simple grazing board.

Choosing the Perfect Cocktail/Mocktail

When September comes around, my tastebuds start craving warm spices. I love pear and cinnamon together so I whipped up this Spiced Pear Gin Fizz which I am absolutely obsessed with and will be making all season. Get the recipe HERE.

Making a Cheese & Charcuterie Display

I love a simple cheese and charcuterie board for a carefree get-together. It might seem complicated to assemble, but it really couldn’t be easier. Here are my top tips:

INGREDIENTS

  • Choose a sizeable cutting board
  • Choose 3 cheese blocks (I like to offer a goat, cow and sheep milk variety if possible)
  • Choose 1-2 jammy spreads. Here I chose chili fig for a sweet/spicy combination
  • Choose seasonal fruit – I chose pears and grapes this time around
  • Choose a variety of nuts
  • Choose olives – My favorite are castelvetrano
  • Choose crackers
  • Add sliced meat if you wish

ASSEMBLY

  • Start with the largest pieces — the cheese. Scatter them around the board with space in between. Have the “back” rind piece facing inward and the point facing outward (easier for people to cut from outside to in)
  • Add your fruits — I like to think about organizing areas in 3s if there is room
  • Scatter your crackers — you could also choose to keep these separate, especially if you have gluten free guests. Separate little bowls for varieties of crackers will work fine.
  • Fold your meats in 4s and tuck them in between the cheese, crackers and fruit
  • Fill any remaining spaces with nuts
